Wandering henchmen.
OK, here is my problem, I'll instruct one of my party members to fight an enemy that is only a couple of feet away, and sometimes they would turn their back on the enemy and take the "long way around" to engage the enemy. This is really frustrating, especially when I need my mage to blast a bunch of shadow goblins with a fireball, but instead goes for a walk. Is there anything I can do, or do I just have to put up with it.
Every day above ground is a good day.(Unless your an Illithid)
Pathfinding search nodes are in the configuration menu, accessible through Programs>Black Isle>Icewind Dale>IWD Configuration.
The "walkies" problem often occurs in tight spaces, especially if several other characters are moving at the same time. It may also occur when trying to cast a spell outside the mage's individual vision radius. Keeping your mage closer to your lead character may help.
Part of the difficulty may be the angles of the Severed Hand. A character can't cast or shoot into areas into which that character cannot see, even if another of your characters can see that area. A little more attention to sightlines might get rid of the problem.

When your back is against the wall... the other guy is in a whole lotta trouble.
