DeathSpank: The Baconing Reviews

The Baconing manages to stay as funny and engaging throughout the entire game. Essentially, it is the same game as the previous two, so if you had enough of the gameplay of the first two games, then The Baconing will feel like more level grinding. Anyone who decides to play through the game for the story will find that the quest system has been improved and there is significantly less backtracking. After putting in over 50 hours across all three games in the DeathSpank series, the games can feel a little like World of Warcraft with all the level grinding and loot gathering, but the story and humor of Hothead games is worth having to kill all those stoopid chickens.
PSX Extreme, 7.2/10.
The Baconing is a competent, fun, and mostly diverse title with plenty of kooky humor. It's a decent option for those who never played DeathSpank, and if you did play the first game, you'll probably like the similarities found in the sequel. Yeah, the weapons aren't all great, you can die quite a bit, and the repetitiveness gets irksome, but I have to say, it's still funny and it's still solid in terms of mechanics. DeathSpank is one of those likeable characters that can start to chafe over time, but come on.with that name, he's always allowed to kick ass and take names.

The Baconing is lighthearted and full of humor that will really get you laughing, but is also jam-packed with problems that completely ruined the gameplay experience for me. The biggest issue I have with The Baconing is its lack of any kind of refinement from previous entries. It is literally the same game that they already put out twice last year. If you really loved every second of DeathSpank one and two, you will not be disappointed here. You may even be happier since the humor is that much better. If you loved DeathSpank, and got tired of Thongs of Virtue, stay far, far away from The Baconing because even a good laugh out loud won't sell you on DeathSpank in this adventure.
Gaming Truth, 4/10.
If you are a gamer that absolutely loves DeathSpank, and don't want anything different than what you've played in his first two outings, then you won't be disappointed. Everyone else might just get a little too bored.
