I'll bite. I'm an old-school Shadowrun player, first and second edition during college, read the first-run novels, and then interest kinda waned after graduation and friends moved away, et cetera. I haven't heard much about Shadowrun Online, and I just found out there's a second game, Shadowrun Returns. How would you catch someone like me up with what's going on both in-universe and IRL?
Very carefully ;) -we have to assume a player doesn't know anything about SR, so during char creation there is a short history (alongside making choices for your char) filling you in on events (such as: where where you during the great matrix crash?). the rest is partly tutorial, partly missions introducing certain topics. There is a back-up on the website with a short summary and an interactive timeline (once the website is at that stage of development) to support detailed "research"

why shadowrun? if i recall shadowrun has not been a hot topic for quite some time excluding the kickstarter. and why an MMO? they are really expensive and most of the times a complete gamble
Ours is more of an MORPG (so not as massively and not as massively expensive). It can be played as a single player hiring your team, with friends or as a multiplayer PvE and PvP. The good thing about online: You can do it cross platform and play the same game with the same char across devices (we will offer tablets, pc/mac/linux and ouya for starters). And you can play it just like the pen and paper/tabletop game sharing the experience with others. Why Shadowrun? We still believe it is a great world setting with wonderful range of opportunities for storytelling and it features topics such as megacorps, pollution, racism etc. in a way which can make them interesting and even fun to play and still relevant.
Only 6 days to go for this one.
