Game Freaks, 8.5/10.
Of Orcs and Men is a great game for fantasy lovers and contains a moving story that draws you in and a dynamic combat system. It's not a game that many have heard about but one that I found once I started I just couldn't stop playing. Well worth having a look if you enjoy the genre.
RPGamer, 2.0/5.
Of Orcs and Men joins the list of games that have failed to deliver after some early promise. This is a pity as the concept of a game examining the point of view and culture of those fantasy races that would traditionally be shoved into the role of the antagonist forces without a second thought is an appealing one. Unfortunately, Of Orcs and Men squanders this opportunity and the result is a mediocre, all-too-short experience that won't live long in the memory.
Console Monster, 70%.
I am trying not to be too hard on Of Orcs and Men because I do feel like there is something here that players will like. The idea and potential of the characters and world is great. The plot is good and it is admirable to see a studio trying something slightly different with a classic genre, but it falls short for numerous reasons. It is no Elder Scrolls but is perhaps worth a look for RPG fans who want to keep themselves busy over the coming months. It is just a shame I can't recommend it to those new to the RPG genre as it fails to live to its full potential.
Stick Twiddlers, 3/5.
Whilst the dialogue can be a bit strained, there's a solid narrative here and despite issues with combat, you will find yourself fairly quickly engrossed and wanting to play more to see how the story plays out. With the inclusion of multiplayer and a simpler combat system that will appeal more to the gaming masses, I really hope that we see a sequel to what is the foundation of a great new IP.
Calm Down Tom, 8/10.
Of Orcs and Men is all in all a deep RPG that will give you many hours of gaming, and draw you deep into it's story and characters. It has to be one of the few games to actually bring some personality to the Orc race, and even that alone makes it worth exploring.
