Might & Magic Heroes Online Previews

We have rounded up a couple of additional previews for the browser-based Might & Magic Heroes Online, which aims to bring the classic Heroes of Might and Magic gameplay to the social universe.

News10:
Like in previous Heroes of Might and Magic games, no hero is more powerful than their army and no weapon is mightier than a keen strategic mind. Players will be able to recruit their troops from a variety of differently-affiliated factions, only this time around they will have the chance to prove their skills in heroic boss battles with multiple successive stages. Also, Heroes Online's MMO capabilities allow players to invite friends into the fray, offering assistance through the game's co-op features.

While Might & Magic Heroes Online is Ubisoft's attempt to take its long-standing (mostly) offline computer game into the free-to-play MMO space, the game plays much like a standard Heroes of Might & Magic game. Those accustomed to the overall gameplay setup of those offline games might find the lack of overworld turns awkward to get used to, but it doesn't take too long to grow accustomed to the new way the overworld plays. Luckily, while other Heroes will be traversing the world map at real time along with the player, independent bands of enemies look like they will remain static on the map.

While Polygon has words from the devs:
"The nice thing about Might and Magic Heroes Online is it's actually not that different [to other Might and Magic games]," Böhne said. "The universe is still rich and there are so many stories to be told we've just brought it to the browser world."

The browser experience does come with some changes in the game's design, though. According to Böhne, browser games aren't meant to be played for fours hours in a row Might and Magic Heroes Online's browser-based and free-to-play nature means players can hop in and out as they please to gather troops and battle enemies when they have the time to. The game will have slow periods when a player has run out of troops and has to wait to recruit more, and during these periods players can tab away from the browser to do something else and return later to take part in in-depth, strategic turn-based battles the series is known for.
