The independent and action RPG-loving team at Return 2 Games has announced an ambitious new title called Book of Demons, which seeks to "retell the universal story of good and evil" while providing a trio of heroes for us to choose from, a card-based character development system, randomized dungeons, and more. Judging by the trailer, it looks to draw influence from Diablo and CCGs, and comes complete with a unique and intriguing art style:
And here's a quick intro from the official website:
The Evil awakens under the Cathedral
"There's a mighty will behind the infernal hordes that attack us - the Archdemon himself. The most vile and cruel creature, one with immense dark power. His army of horrors is crawling ever closer to the surface. If they succeed, the shadow of darkness will fall on us for all eternity...)
- The Fortune Teller
Hack & Slash Reimagined
Dark fantasy hack & slash with many twists in gameplay mechanics set in the pop-up book world of the Paperverse.
Retelling of the Classic
Explore the depths under the Cathedral and feel the dark and gloomy atmosphere of the dungeon below. Book of Demons retells the universal story of good and evil - an epic quest to save the world from corruption. All with a humorous twist of a parody.
Unique Cards System
Mystical cards system takes place of classical skills and equipment. Each card is unique in its mechanics and works well in various situations and gamestyles. Combine them depending on the enemies you are facing and create your favourite set.
Flexiscopeâ„¢
Our Flexiscopeâ„¢ system allows you to set the length of each quest. It learns your way of playing to always give the best experience, making the Book of Demons first truly accessible hack & slash. Have only 5 minutes for a game? No problem!
Randomized Dungeons
Never venture through the same dungeon twice. Every level you enter is randomly generated making each adventure a unique one. The depths under the Cathedral are populated by over 70 different creatures: lurking scorpions, infected zombies, snake archers, mad goatmen, not-so-sexy succubi... you get the idea.
Endless Replayability
Slaying the Archdemon isn't the end of the story. Once you are done Freeplay mode awaits full of new challanges. Revisit any part of the dungeon you want on each of 4 difficulities (the last one is called the Massacre for a reason). Master the quests with all three classes, each of them bringing totally new experience with its unique mechanics.
