AurumDust's narrative RPG Ash of Gods: Redemption has been out for over a week now, which is more than enough time for some proper reviews to appear. With these reviews ranging from highly positive to middling, you'll probably find one that aligns with your personal tastes. Check them out:
GameSpace 9.5/10:
Overall Ash of Gods: Redemption feels new and fresh and is a welcome addition to the world of RPGs. If you don’t mind your worlds dark with harsh moral choices, but a great story, music and art than this game is for you.
HardcoreGamer 3.5/5:
Ash of Gods swings back and forth between being immensely enjoyable and feeling like it could be doing things so much better — and it knows it. Ash of Gods is obviously a huge nod to The Banner Saga, but does its own thing enough to hold its own; it just doesn’t carry itself with the confidence that could push it towards greatness. All the pieces are there, but due to poor writing in places, battles that can range from fun to frustrating and not enough focus on the areas that work, Ash of Gods: Redemption is almost a metaphor for itself. It’s an enjoyable experience constantly battling itself much like its characters are battling the reaping: succeeding but fighting uphill the entire way.
Hey Poor Player 3.5/5:
Although this game may not be the first of its kind, but it still stands out well enough. Featuring a darkly charming setting, strategy-oriented combat, and a story which places players in control, Ash of Gods: Redemption is a lore-filled SRPG that fans of the genre probably shouldn’t pass up on.
TheProGamer 10/10:
In the end, Ash of Gods has been great. It had that unique art style appeal, I thought it would never work since Banner Saga was hugely successful in the first place but Ash of Gods pulls it into a fresh new appeal. It has the length and the guts of a RPG and the pull that keeps you stuck into the game. The mechanics are simple but works. Not a lot to take in but you have to think out your next move. The soundtrack made it for me and tipped it over. I have nothing bad to say about Ash of Gods. It was a little under the radar and it’s one of those gems that a lot of people may not hear of but you’ll hear someone else talking about it. I’d gladly jump back in and with the addition of multiplayer online to keep that Ash of Gods feel going.
Gamer Professionals 6.5/10:
All in all, Ash of Gods is still just about worth your time. The art style will immediately resonate and make this title stand out from the crowd where its gameplay and story might not capture that much attention. If someone has already played both of the Banner Saga games and is looking for something along those lines, then definitely look at picking up this title. Otherwise, this game is worth a look for fans of adventure and action games a like, though definitely a measured one.
Capsule Computers 8/10:
Ash of Gods: Redemption does have a small hurdle at the start requiring you to put some extra dedication and focus to fully comprehend the story. However, everything else past that point is nothing but rewarding. You are met with an innovative and compelling combat system, astonishing visuals and a rich story of monumental proportions. As far as I’m concerned, my little excursion to other genre realms turned out just fine. I was rewarded with a great turn-based RPG that hits all the good spots in my book and it has my sincere recommendation for all of you, whether it is your cup of tea or not.
