What works well in a CRPG setting doesn’t always work well in a novel. A computer game is much more action based than a book. Players want to do something, they want to be involved. The emphasis is on combat and action. In the novel the focus is more on characters and their motivations. Can you imagine a novel in which there is a detailed combat sequence on every other page? That’s what would have to happen if I duplicated every battle a player can encounter in the Throne of Bhaal expansion pack. Conversely, what fun would a CRPG be if there was only five or six battles in the entire game? Of course there are elements of action in the novel, just as there is character development within the game. But the emphasis is somewhat reversed in the two forms.
