Combine that with very detailed background and the entire world almost feels real. Suspension of disbelief has become more and more rare, despite heavy advances in graphics and sound over the years. Gothic is one of the few games that has flirted with attaining this in recent years for me. The characters themselves have depth. I find myself questioning the motives of the NPC's I encounter, sometimes with good reason. If I had to pick one movie setting to compare Gothic to it would be the Road Warrior. It's survival of the fittest here, but that does not mean that treacherous individuals can not be trusted, if it is in their best interest.
