Q: What does combat (melee) "feel" like ?
A: It's not easy to comment on Combat at the moment, since I am a complete rookie in the game. You start off knowing very little about how to use weapons, but similar to Daggerfall, get better with time. Training is also available throughout the towns, but you'll need plenty of dough if you're going to take that route. Swinging a sword is done with a simple mouse click, once you hit the [F] key to bring out whatever is equipped in your hand.
Secondly, the 2nd part of GameSpy's Morrowind Preview takes a more subjective style of tone, commenting on the various aspects of gameplay and graphics:
Speaking of organic effects, the water effects are the best I've seen to date on a PC game. Water ripples realistically and reflects what's around it, but remains transparent enough to see what's below. As you wade into a still pond, you'll see the ripples blossom out behind you.
Lastly, let's talk for a second about the music. Morrowind's orchestral theme is simple but evocative. Deep booming drums and softly moaning stringed instruments create an ambiance of adventure that transforms into pulsating battle music when you enter combat. It's subtle but well integrated into gameplay -- what all good game music should be.
