Dungeons & Dragons: 2nd Edition vs. 3rd Edition

Possibly one of the biggest differences between 2nd and 3rd Ed D&D lies in the area of the character’s skill set. In 2nd Ed, a character earned skill points as he progressed, and he could use them to “buy” certain martial and non-martial skills. As the skill points were very limited, a player really had to consider carefully what he wanted to get.
Honestly speaking, compared to what veteran players got in 2nd Ed, players who started out with 3rd Ed D&D are spoilt for choice. Because not only do they get a whole bunch of skills to play with, they also get to choose certain “Feats”, or exceptional abilities which their character can learn as they progress in levels. (Imagine being able to add +5 to your armour class rating simply by declaring that you are using a articular “Feat”! That’s a little of what you can expect in 3rd Ed D&D.)
