Not only have I been fortunate enough to work as the lead designer on all previous Warlords games, but three of the other core members of my team - Dean Farmer, Janeen Fawkner and Mick Robertson - have worked on the last five Warlords titles with me. This gives us a very clear and focused vision on what constitutes a Warlords game: 1) Simple gameplay and clear objectives (easy to learn); 2) deep and well-balanced strategic options (hard to master); 3) vast amounts of replayability and customizability (a game that changes as you play it and keeps you playing longer); and 4) a central character who progresses through all of the battles and with whom the player can identify. (You get to be a Hero!)
