One factor that may turn some gamers off, however, is that ToEE was not designed to re-create perhaps the most compelling reason many of us played Dungeons & Dragons: social interaction. ToEE is single-player only, so weigh that into your decision. Personally, it doesn't bother me, as I'm glad to see the developers focus on a solid single-player game.
In the end, ToEE is a rock-solid RPG that faithfully re-creates a classic adventure. It's only a few interface issues, lackluster storytelling, and a limited scope that keep it from being among the best in its genre.
