SpellForce Review

Games that capture my attention and imagination as thoroughly as SpellForce has are exceedingly rare these days. Taking a completely generic template and working it into one of the most stylized and unique experiences I've ever seen is no small feat, yet Phenomic has managed to achieve the nigh-impossible. This title excels on virtually every level, with only a few notable errors. Graphically stunning, infused with a rich storyline, and so full of subtle touches your head will spin trying to keep track of them all. What's perhaps most amazing of all is this: it's blatantly obvious where the developers were drawing their influences from, yet they still managed to not only avoid the clone trap but wildly surpass their inspirations. If not for the drawback of pace, SpellForce could've been a classic. Even still, there's something magical about this release. (Pun intended.) For anyone who wants to feel that gleeful sense of immersion in a new fantastical world where valor and heroism still matter, where dragons hoard powerful treasures, and where the supernatural is just part of day-to-day life, SpellForce: The Order of Dawn is the answer to your dreams.
