City of Heroes Previews

The content for Cryptic Studios' City of Heroes continues with three more previews surfacing on the web. The first is at Just RPG with a look at character concepts:
The Upper Body includes chest, shoulders, belt, arms and gloves. The Lower Body handles the pants and boots. There are so many options in each of these categories - and even "Detail" options in some - that you quickly begin to see why Cryptic estimated the total possible costume combinations at 2.24 Quadrillion. To avoid feeling overwhelmed, I urge you to start at the top and take your time with each component until you feel you're close. Then after you've finished the last detail on your boots, go back to the top and review each selection. Your goal on the second time through is to make an integrated look and feel to your character. You don't want that robotic mask on an organic scrapper without a reason -- and you probably wouldn't want armored cyborg pants on an business-suited controller, either. Anything's possible here but focus on what you think actually works well within your concept. Once you log this character into the tutorial, you can't go back without deleting and starting over.

The second is at MMO Gamer's Hell:
When I first launched up the City of Heroes Beta Client I haven't read up on the game very much, and so I couldn't possibly imagine the vast character customization options that I was presented. The literally thousands of possible combinations made the creation of (Fyrn Hellfire) very pleasant. The fire fanatic I am, I chose a selection of strong armor and a fiery theme dominated by the colors black and red. The fact you can customize everything, from head to feet right in the beginning effectively eliminates the endless search for loot that will be good for your in terms of defense and look. You just instantly create the look you can identify yourself with. Imagine Superman flying around in a green jogging suit before he finally got level 10 and had enough cash to buy his cape, it would be ridiculous.

And the third is at Bjorn3D:
Remember those tactics I mentioned before? Well, it has been stated by the developers of the game that while soloing will be difficult, you should choose a team to do missions with. The team function is really easy to use. Bring up the team menu, click to indicate you want to join a team, then either find others listed that want to team up or wait for an invite. It sure beats spamming the chat channel with (Level 5 blaster LFG.) I personally think that grouping is the way a comic book game should be run. If everyone is in character, it is a total blast! Plus, the experience is great in groups due to smart spawns.
