The first game's NetImmerse technology has been swapped out in favor of an engine from Gamebryo, which will allow for much more detail. By way of example, Tombstone rips a lamppost out of the ground to use it as a weapon, only to suddenly find himself fighting in the dark. This dynamic lighting will also give a lot of the superpowers more visual flair. There are also plenty of new vehicles that aren't just heavy things to be thrown. When a tank rolls onto the scene, one of the heroes announces its arrival with a line that could only come from Freedom Force: "Crikey, it's a bleedin' Panzer!"
Tombstone's possession power, which he uses to take over Nazis so they'll fight other Nazis, is an example of one of the many new superpowers, which are still as customizable as ever. "We talked to a lot of fans and asked, 'What do you need in the game to make the guys you want to make?'" said Jonathan Chey. He uses Green Jeanie to turn a bad guy into a vase of flowers.
