It did not quite live up to its hype, but is still a good game. After a while, things get repetitive. The controls take a while to get used to, voice-overs are annoying, and the story was straight forward and short if you only do the story quests. On the upside, it is great that you can build up a character fitting your personality, and to know that whatever you do has an effect. I highly recommend Fable as a renter, since it can be beat within a week, and possibly finish a second character.
The second is at GameOver with an overall score of 82%:
There'll probably be a Fable 2. When it arrives, I hope it's everything that Peter Molyneux said the first one would be: an experience that's mostly dictated by the player's choice. As it stands, Fable's a lot of fun, but at times, you can see the beginnings of something much cooler that was sadly abandoned.
And the third is at The Armchair Empire with an overall score of 8.5/10:
In the end, Fable is a really good game. It doesn't live up to the promise of Project Ego, but, really, who cares? We spend to much time as reviewers talking about unfulfilled promises and too little time judging games on their own merits. As it stands, Fable's flaws mean it just misses greatness. Luckily, early sales indicate that we will likely get a sequel which should be able to address the few nagging concerns.
