Q: How did you come about creating the insanely strange cast? I mean Fortissimo, that guy is cool as hell, but where did he come from?
A: The odd thing about all the success we've had creating characters is that we never really worked out a process. Every character has come about in a way that was unique in one way or another. Sometimes it starts with me dropping a name I pull out of nowhere or a cool backstory, while others Robb Waters will slide a sketch across my desk and we'll brainstorm from there.
At that point, an artist or designer will come up with a really cool power that can help define the character. The bottom line is that no two characters were created in exactly the same way. I think because we've never been forced to create something specific or had to follow some arbitrary guideline, the characters have all been fresh.
