Many players of the original felt awkwardly left alone concerning the circumstances of 'Fable's' main plot. Quite a good examples of that might be those three quests at the beginning of the game which were simply unsolvable. Rest assured that they have their comeback remaining unsolvable. Now however another one of Albion's Heroes' gives at least a bit of clearance regarding that matter. Generally spoken the plot receives some more depth using a few additional sequences explaining the roots of good and evil throughout your quests you eventually have to solve. Furthermore Lady Grey is now more deeply involved in the game's storyline. Granted, her sister is still not saveable, since she has been murdered a long time ago - nevertheless if you happen to find evidence of that deed, the local people will listen to your story. Yet all those things are completely disconnected from the main plot which - putting an early meeting with Scythe aside - remains unchanged. In contrast to Fable the sidequests now feel slightly longer and more intense and take longer to solve. Thus the amount of riddles has increased quite a bit which, although the settings remain the same, definitely aids the game.
