The first main strategy players put to use in the Auto Assault crafting system is in deciding what to specialize in. Players can learn four Apprentice, two Journeyman and one Master discipline. Any can be "unlearned" to allow for a different discipline to be chosen and, fortunately, players can see the whole crafting tree at once, so they can plan out which path to take to unlock the disciplines they want for the future. Once one has decided on an area in which to specialize, strategy is involved in practicing chosen methods, deciding whether or not to stay within a specialization, and even deciding whether or not to keep or sell the items you create.
