Q: What are your primary goals for the type of gameworld you want players to experience, and what are some interesting or unusual locations we'll visit?
A: The gameworld is a blend of typical high-fantasy, European-style elements with the omnipresent Empire troops and locations, inspired artistically by the height of the Incan empire in South America. The entire setting is unique to this entry in the series, with a deeper background and a richer world to explore than the simple dungeons of previous Gauntlet titles. While players will still get to explore dungeons, the game also features some truly impressive outdoor environments, as well as cities, villages and the depths of an underground civilization.
We want people to really feel like they are exploring somewhere fantastic, with locations that might live only in legend, but that the world looks real, that the designs are consistent with one another, and that the culture actually might live and thrive in the settings the player experiences.
One of the more impressive locations is the imperial city visited by the players late in the game, where the architecture and lighting are gorgeous. Another highlight is the first level, which takes place in a city under siege by enemy forces struggling to control the streets amidst explosions and crumbling pillars.
