Sony Online to Develop Free MMORPG

The Austin American-Statesman is reporting that Sony Online has plans to develop an MMORPG that will not require a subscription fee but instead charge for add-ons. Some commentary from Sony Online president John Smedley:
"We're going to be launching this quickly," Smedley said, though he declined to reveal the game title. "We see it as a powerful way of getting people in" to online gaming, because many video game aficionados are put off by subscription-based games.

This really doesn't surprise me, given the success of Guild Wars.
