What I like about DDO is that the designers have managed to maintain the challenges of the PnP game. The PnP game is cerebral. You have to solve the adventures like puzzles. D&D is about planning and careful execution of strategy. Every movement in combat is carefully considered. You have to manage your resources and make sacrifices for your team in order to succeed. I think DDO has accomplished this. They've kept the thinking and problem-solving aspects of the PnP game while adding some "twitch" excitement into the mix. When I enter a new dungeon, I feel like I'm entering a puzzle and I really like that a lot. It's even better when I get the drop on the ogre guarding my objective.
