Heroes of Might and Magic V Reviews

Several reviews for Ubisoft and Nival's newly released Heroes of Might and Magic V have been posted to the web. The first is at GameSpot with an overall score of 8.2/10:
Diehard Heroes fans will find other things to nitpick about in this latest game in the series, but taken on its own merits, Heroes of Might and Magic V is a big, deep, lavishly produced turn-based strategy game that's got a lot of great qualities. And that's especially good news considering this series very nearly died off altogether. Skeptical Heroes fans, as well as anyone looking for a fun, long-lasting turn-based strategy game, will likely be pleasantly surprised by this one.

The second is at Yahoo! Games with an overall score of 3.5/5:
It's pointless and beautiful, but in the end, it all comes down to making Heroes of Might & Magic as pretty as it's ever been, if not slightly less playable than you remember it. Now can someone put together an FAQ while we wait on Ubisoft to patch the multiplayer?

The third is at PALGN AU with an overall score of 8.5/10:
Heroes of Might & Magic is back and Heroes V is a fairly good attempt at resurrecting one of our favourite franchisers ever made. There a few very minor aspects that brings this game down from being the best in the series voice acting, story depth is lacking (the novel-like stories were beautiful), some minor early retail bugs, some AI trouble, no random map generator and not many single player/multiplayer maps on hand. While these are subject to change from person to person, these were some of the errors that stood out and prevented Heroes V from being better than previously versions. Thankfully, the improvements made to the series really make this game worth a look, and hell, the gameplay is damn addictive.

The fourth is at ActionTrip with an overall score of 85/100:
In its own right, Heroes of Might & Magic 5 is a good game, and it's a definite must buy for fans of the series. Even those who are new to the franchise and have an affinity for turn-based strategy games with a lot of depth should give it a try. Surely, there will be a lot of fans who will inevitably compare this iteration to the third game down to the very last detail, but there is no possible way for a group of people with one goal in mind to please everyone and their notion of the direction the series should've taken.

And the fifth is at Games Xtreme with an overall score of 9.0/10:
In an age of powerful physics systems and eye-popping, mind-blowing special effects it's nice to see a return to turn based action. Heroes of Might and Magic has always been a firm favourite of the turn based players along with the glorious X-Com games and this incarnation of the series stays fairly strong to its roots.
