The new hero NPCs -- vital to Nightfall's rote storyline, which involves some bad guys who worship a Big Evil God-are highly customizable, on par with a human-controlled character. You can custom-tailor a hero's skill bar, equip him with new weapons, and upgrade his armor, just like you can with any other character. In battle, you can order these heroes around and trigger their skills manually, in a sort of pseudo-RTS fashion. Or, if you're the lazy type, you can just let your heroes do everything themselves...and they usually wind up outperforming a lot of human pick-up groups in terms of efficiency. You can add up to three heroes to a group (and you ultimately get over a dozen to pick from at any given time), which is usually more than enough to get you through anything.
