Much like other role-playing games, Mass Effect features a leveling-up system that lets you learn more abilities and skills to aid you in combat. As was previously mentioned, there are a variety of skills that you can focus on, depending on the type of fighter you want Shepherd to be. For example, if you spend experience points on weapons, then you can open up new weapons skills that enable you to wield stronger and more devastating weaponry and armor. Likewise, spending points in biotics opens new telekinetic skills. So, if you're aiming for a mixture of skills, you probably won't see the strongest abilities in any category, but you'll have a more balanced character. Again, it all just depends on how you want to play.
