Also similar to Warlords is the board-based gameplay, though instead of different mana wells and the ability to cast spells, Galactrix has the each of the playing-piece colors standing for a system of your ship or other essential quantity, and you'll be able to acquire power-ups from certain combinations. Specifically, red pieces are for your weapons, yellow for the engines and green for the ship's CPU; while blue helps you replenish your shields (the shield strength is a number indicated directly under your name at the top portion of the display), purple is your PSI strength (which enables you to cause an environmental influence or effect), white is your Intel (which affects your character's level) and the black pieces with numbers on them deal damage to your foe when matched. Matching four or five pieces still enables you to take an extra turn and also has additive effects on whatever you match.
D3 explained that the work-in-progress is changing and a lot of the gameplay might change before the game is released. As such, XBLA games often require much less development time than major retail releases, so even though Galactrix is more than half a year away from release, its design and features are far from being solidified. For instance, our demo stated that there'd be a star map and system map, though he couldn't provide details on how they'll work in the gameplay. We'd have to assume that one of the maps will be similar to the map of cities that's used to navigate the main character in Warlords, but that the other map will provide more intricate control over your character's travels through the universe and the story.
