"We have had some very good excuses as to why our games haven't been as good as they should have been," he said in August 2007. "I still think that Black & White had a huge amount of flaws in it, I still think that Fable had a huge amount of flaws in it. And there are excuses for that. There's time, there's pressure, the small group, there's being distracted.
"But now, we haven't got those excuses, so now, really, the next projects that we do are a true measure of our ability, our ambition, our passion. We've got all of that comfort...to make a great game."
And now that Fable 2 is complete, Molyneux is still happy that it's the game to define his "position in the industry".
"Absolutely it is. At the end of the day you can stand up in front of people and wave your arms, but unless you actually create a product, you don't deserve that attention," he said. "I still stand by that - I think it should define my position in the industry, and if it's not good, that says something about me. And if it is good, that also says something about me.
