Demigod is solid title. It's gorgeous, has great replay value and looks to be a great platform with a long lifespan, thanks to the release of new demigods, maps, features and gameplay modes. I simply worry about the current feature-set, with no tutorial or "let me hold your hand, give you cut scenes, and prepare you for multiplayer" single-player campaign, many gamers will have a hard time jumping in. Additionally, until connectivity is a stressless and seamless experience the true value of the game is diminished.

The $40 price tag for Demigod, an online game with no demo out currently, does seem a lot to ask for some gamers. Many of them will certainly take advantage of Stardock's policy of including no DRM or copy protection and pirate the game to play it in single player or LAN modes, but I will try and remind people here that GPG is still an independent developer, and Stardock is still an independent publisher that's trying to make the experience better for the consumer by not including DRM. While Take Two did handle the retail distribution of the game, that's not quite the same as publishing it. If you really need to play a demo first then by all means wait it out, but if you're still on the fence, I think most gamers will find Demigod to be a blast - especially when more multiplayer issues are ironed out over the next week or two.

Demigod can be a lot of fun overall, and we really enjoyed taking each of its diverse characters out onto the field of battle. But Gas Powered Games just needs to add a little map variety and VoIP, otherwise things tend to get a somewhat bland once you've played the same map over and over. We're really interested to see the level of support they provide for the game down the road however. If Stardock's history with Sins of a Solar Empire and Galactic Civilizations is any indicator, then we think Demigod's future is pretty bright.
