The inventory management system has basically been streamlined or if you prefer, removed. Instead of the system used in the first game, all of the item management takes place on the Normandy between missions. In addition, there are only a few weapons to cycle in and out, but they have upgrades that can be researched meaning they can be customised. Shepard's armor can also be customised. One of the things that people disliked about the original was the fact that the uncharted planets section of the game was rather bland. Bioware are looking to shake this up by making less of those planets but removing the Mako sections and also ensuring that the planets bring something new to the table in terms of missions and side-quests. Also, weapons don't seem to have unlimited ammo anymore either, so that's another change that may up the intensity of the fire fights if you run low on it. Experience is now only gained after missions as well, though I believe you'll still get experience points for killing enemies. You're now capped at level thirty as well and with the new cap, the skills have been more streamlined. In other words, there are less skills for each character but they should be more useful.
