A dark mirror of the world of Coruscant, the smuggler's moon of Nar Shaddaa is home to billions of aliens, smugglers, bounty hunters, and refugees left homeless by the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil War. An important way station in interstellar trade, ancient refueling spires and loading docks still reach out from the native soil into orbit, and in between, vast vertical cities have filled the spaces. The lower levels fell into disrepair and decay, and the lowliest of dregs have been forced into the decrepit undercity.
Any human setting foot on the surface of Nar Shaddaa best have a trade or means to pay their way on the smuggler's moon, or they will find themselves as the mercy of the crime lord Goto and the intergalactic crime syndicate known as the Exchange. As visitors to the planet will quickly discover, the Exchange has regulated many refugees to the planet's Refugee Sector and are slowly selling them off as slaves to the Hutt spice planets... or to other members of the Exchange for darker purposes.
The moon is firmly affixed in the galaxy's criminal underbelly, and no amount of reform will ever bring it into the light again. Ship-jackers, slavers, spice dealers, pirates, hunters and other unsavory types congregate in the vile cities. For a price, anything can be bought and sold on Nar Shaddaa, and many young smugglers and fringe-types get their start on the Smugglers' Moon.
Although the moon of Nar Shaddaa is crawling with bounty hunters, many of them have fallen into an uneasy truce lately, and few know why. Many also seem to have left the planet in search of bounties across the galaxy, but their destinations... and their quarry... are unknown.
