IGN, 8.0/10.
The substantial expansion may have a lame villain, but everything else about it will remind players why they fell for Reckoning to begin with. The Legend of Dead Kel's pirate themes, new economy and upgrades, and interesting new characters bring new life to an already excellent action-RPG.
Destructoid, 8.5/10.
What could have easily been "just another bunch of quests on a new location" has been crafted into a variety of enjoyable elements to occupy yourself with. It's quite long, too, easily taking you six hours or more to complete nearly everything there is to do on the new island. Moreover, it offers an excellent opportunity to try out a new build if you've been stocking up powerful equipment in your stash, but never bothered to commit to a full respec of your abilities before.
The additions to the Reckoning formula and the distinct style of the island of Gallows End serve to turn "The Legend of Dead Kel" into the DLC equivalent of a tropical island vacation. It's a fun trip to a relaxing setting far away from the Crystal War, which lets you explore yet another piece of the Amalur's world at your leisure.
The Controller Online, 9/10.
If you enjoyed Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning, The Legend of Dead Kel is a must buy. This DLC adventure brings you back to Amalur with a purpose; to experience a very entertaining chunk of quests and explore a fresh new game area. While Kel himself isn't all that interesting the island and other characters are great. The Legend of Dead Kel is DLC done right.
Sticky Trigger Entertainment, 9/10.
If you enjoyed Kingdoms of Amalur, The Legend of Dead Kel is a must buy. More a true Expansion Pack than just your standard DLC, Dead Kel adds a ton of content at a stunning quality, most certainly on par with the main game. While The Legend of Kel may not be the best slice of expansion we've played in an RPG, but this is defiantly DLC done right.
Digital Chumps, 8.8/10.
The Legend of Dead Kel is a quality five-plus hour expansion that is fairly priced. Fans of Reckoning should strongly consider it, unless they're holding out for a eventual re-release of Reckoning with all DLC included.
Dealspwn, 7/10.
The Legend Of Dead Kel is a good start for Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning's singleplayer DLC, and sensational value for the price. While its bland and stodgy campaign offers nothing for players who've already completed the game, low-level characters will revel in a wealth of new features that remain relevant throughout the main storyline. Hopefully future DLC packs will offer genuinely new and interesting things for the Fateless One to experience while really building on Amalur's lore.
