Overview

This section of the Coastway is rather deserted and is a favorite spot of bandits for ambushes. Traveling during the day lowers the risks, but without the Flaming Fist patrols, you never know what you're going to find.


1 - Ambush Site

You'll get ambushed by six hobgoblins here. If you approach them slowly, then you might be able to draw them to you one or two at a time, making the battle easier.

Just to the west of the ambush site, you might notice three corpses on the ground. If you're playing the EE, and if you haven't rested in the area yet, then you should find Colquetle's Family Amulet next to them. You can take this amulet to Mr. Colquetle in Beregost for a reward.


2 - Lord Foreshadow

This lord is an easter egg. He's a subtle advertisement for Neverwinter Nights, which was released four years after Baldur's Gate.


3 - Portalbendarwinden

At this spot you'll meet the hermit Portalbendarwinden. If you demand a straight answer from him, then he'll tell you that "your coin is on edge" and that you have many battles to come.
