Overview
This old dwarven mine was discovered some time ago by the Iron Throne, who drained all of the river water from it and established a base there. They use it mainly to forge quality iron weapons that they intend to sell for an exorbitant price during the upcoming war. They guard their mine well, so be careful. Unfortunately for them, you are not about to let their plan unfold as they expect.
1 - Lakadaar
At this spot you'll meet an Iron Throne guard named Lakadaar. If you tell him that you're in the area hunting wyverns, and explain how dangerous wyverns are, then Lakadaar will skedaddle away in fright. Otherwise, he'll summon four guards, and they'll all attack you. You'll earn 600 xp total for the battle.
2 - Drasus, Genthore, Kysus and Rezdan
At this spot you'll encounter a quartet of elite bounty hunters: Drasus, Genthore, Kysus and Rezdan. Drasus and Genthore are fighters with a high THAC0 and plenty of hit points. Rezdan and Kysus are mages who can cast such spells as Improved Invisibility, Mirror Image, Fear, Confusion and Flame Arrow. The fight can be quite difficult if you are not well prepared. We'd recommend rushing the two mages and taking them out quickly, and then whittling away the health of the two fighters. You can also approach the group slowly and then retreat when they spot you so you only have to fight one or two of them at a time.
In total, you'll earn 5600 xp for the battle, and when you loot the corpses you'll find
Boots of Speed, a
Mage Robe of Cold Resistance, a
Morning Star +1,
Fallorain's Plate +1 (aka
Plate Mail +1), a
Potion of Frost Giant Strength, a scroll of
Fireshield (Red) (EE only), and a
Traveler's Robe. You'll also find a scroll that will let you know that the bounty hunters were hired by Rieltar, and that Davaeorn can be found inside the mines (Exit A)>
3 - Barracks
On the main floor of the barracks, you'll get attacked by two guards, but you'll find a
Potion of Magic Shielding in a locked chest. On the upper floor, the last remaining guard will beg for his life, and he'll tell you that you can find the entrance to the mines to the east (Exit A).
