Rogue
Rogue Rogues are resourceful adventurers. Some are thieves, while others become tricksters, infiltrators, spies, or simple thugs.

Rogues are skilled in the sneak attack, in finding and disabling traps, and in opening locks.

Class Overview
  • Ability Scores: Dexterity, Intelligence, and Wisdom are important for many of the rogue's skills.

  • Alignment: Any

  • Hit Die: d6

  • Good Saving Throws: Reflex

  • Class Skills: Bluff, Disable Device, Escape Artist, Hide, Intimidate, Listen, Move Silently, Open Lock, Perform, Search, Sense Motive, Spot, Tumble, and Use Magic Device.

  • Weapon Proficiencies: Rogues are proficient with all simple weapons, plus the hand crossbow, rapier, shortbow, and shortsword. Rogues are proficient with light armor but not shields.

Special Abilities
  • Sneak Attack: Any time a rogue's enemy is denied their Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (such as when the target is caught flat-footed or the rogue is invisible), or when the target is flanked, the rogue scores extra damage when they attack. This extra damage is 1d6 at 1st level and increases by 1d6 every two rogue levels thereafter. Constructs, undead, oozes, plants, and incorporeal creatures are immune to sneak attacks.

  • Trapfinding: Rogues (and only rogues) can use the Search skill to locate traps when the task has a Difficulty Class higher than 20.

  • Evasion: At 2nd level or higher, if a monk or rogue succeeds on a Reflex save that would normally halve damage against them, the damage is completely negated instead.

  • Trap Sense: Starting at 3rd level, a barbarian and rogue gains a +1 bonus on Reflex saves made to avoid traps and a +1 dodge bonus to AC against attacks made by traps. These bonuses rise by +1 every three levels thereafter (6th, 9th, 12th, 15th, and 18th level).

  • Uncanny Dodge: At 2nd level for barbarians and 4th level for rogues, a character retains their Dexterity bonus to Armor Class (if any) even if they are caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker.

  • Improved Uncanny Dodge: At 5th level for barbarians and 8th level for rogues, a character can no longer be flanked. This denies rogue characters the chance to sneak attack.
