Overview

1 - Ruined Caravan

If you loot the containers next to the caravan, then you'll find two sets of Fine Silks (which you'll need for the quest The Merchant's Goods).


2 - Scavenger Camp

When you approach this camp, you'll be attacked by half a dozen scavengers. After the battle, you'll find some Fine Silks in a barrel and a scroll sitting on a crate. You'll need the silks for the quest The Merchant's Goods. The scroll will give you the Notes codex entry for Orders to the Militia.


3 - Scavenger Camp

When you approach this camp, you'll be attacked by even more scavengers, plus a couple of sylvans. When you loot the camp and the bodies, you'll find three sets of Fine Silks (which you'll need for the quest The Merchant's Goods).


4 - Engraved Statue

You'll need to take tracings of these statues for the quest Maferath's Monuments. Each time you do, you'll gain or update the Books and Songs codex entry for The Canticle of Maferath.


5 - Overturned Carts

In containers next to these carts, you'll find three sets of Fine Silks (which you'll need for the quest The Merchant's Goods).


6 - Bridge

When you cross this bridge, you'll encounter Velanna, the elf who has been attacking the caravans. This meeting is covered in the quest entry for Trading Troubles.


7 - Abandoned Dalish Camp

In a crate in the camp you'll find an Elven Prayer for the Dead.


8 - Ancient Sylvans

You'll encounter ancient sylvans in these four spots. You'll need to kill them for the quest From the Living Wood.


9 - Blight Wolves

You'll encounter several blight wolves here, including a "yellow" alpha blight wolf.


10 - Militia Survivor

The militia survivor is involved in the quest Trading Troubles.


11 - Spider Ambush

When you reach this spot, you'll get ambushed by several giant spiders and poisonous spiders. After the battle, you'll find the ring Ash on a darkspawn corpse.


12 - Scholar Corpse

On the scholar's corpse you'll find a Strange Stone and a Battered Journal. Looting these items will give you the Quest-Related codex entry for A Scholar's Journal. You'll need the stone and the journal to solve the stone puzzle (#15).


13 - Granite Deposit

The granite deposit is involved in the quest What Is Built Endures.


14 - Statue of Peace / Statue of War

When you approach the statues, the Statue of War will speak to you and give you the quest "Brothers of Stone." He'll tell you that he and his brother were cursed by a Tevinter mage a thousand years ago, and he'll ask you to summon the mage by disturbing his bones (located just to the north), and then defeat him in battle. After the conversation, the Statue of Peace will make you a counteroffer. He'll inform you that his meditations have taught him that "violence often accomplishes naught," and he'll ask you to teach this lesson to his brother.

If you side with the Statue of War, then you'll have to fight a "red" ancient magister, but when you return to the statue, he'll reward you with The Winter Blade. If you side with the Statue of Peace, then you'll need to talk to the Statue of War again, but afterwards, when you return to the Statue of Peace, you'll receive recipes for Potent Stamina Draughts, Master Stamina Draughts, and Greater Spirit Balms. Either way, you'll also receive 750 xp.

Note: If you side with the Statue of Peace, then after completing the quest, you'll still be able to head to the magister bones and summon the ancient magister -- and collect some extra loot and xp when you kill it.


One solution for the stone puzzle.
15 - Stone Puzzle

If you loot the scholar's corpse to the north (#12), then you'll learn that the goal of this puzzle is to "make a path of fire that connects all of the stones in a single loop." A solution for the puzzle is shown in the insert to the right. If you solve the puzzle, then a mystic chest will pop up in its center, and from it you'll be able to loot the amulet Illumination. You'll also receive 800 xp.


16 - Corpse

You'll find a Bronze Sextant on the corpse.


17 - Ines

Ines is involved in the quest Ines the Botanist. She'll only appear here if you're on the quest.


18 - The Old One

When you approach the Old One (a giant tree), it will attack you, and you'll find Heartwood on its corpse. Looting the Heartwood will trigger the quest Heart of the Forest.


Exits:
  1. Entrance to the Silverite Mine. You won't be able to enter the mine until you've progressed far enough in the quest Trading Troubles.
  2. World exit.
