i like dualled rangers. you get better turn undead in SoA and access to the spells earlier. getting access to more holy powers earlier is better imo. plus you get more HP, earlier weapon profs etc.

the dual class question

i've recently started playing again, with a fighter/mage.

now, i always advocated the use of dual classed clerics (ranger or fighter base first) due to the spell holy power giving you a good thaco.

playing my f/m, i've notived tensor's transformation also gives you fighter thaco. am i missing out ...

doesn't the spell holy power work just like divine power in 3.5? that alone gives the dual class an edge.

having said that, in the late (read: ToB) game, getting high level fighter abilities is priceless.

i seem to recall also that above a certain level, you don't really gain that much as a ...

because of the dex requirements, two weapon fighting is best combined with weapon finesse.

it is also best for rogues with high sneak attack damage - more attacks equals more hits equals more applications of sneak attack.

whereas for damage only, two handed and strength is best for fighters

brewing potions and scribing scrolls

having installed the expansions, i have the extra feats and prestige classes available.

i've never finished the OC, so i started again with a cleric (planning on adding a couple of levels of fighter/dwarven defender). my first feat has been scribe scroll.

i can't for the life of me figure out how ...

the four person party makes the game harder in the early stages, but one or two quests into chapter two and you will notice a difference.

if you have ToB installed, the four person party is immensely powerful and after half of chapter two's quests, you won't face a challenge until the very end of ...

only mage characters can get familiars.

insane makes all monsters (including spells from mages) do double damage.

and those aren't good stats. they are incredibly good stats. godlike even.

all mage characters find soloing easier simply because of the amount of mages you face.

f/m/t, sorceror and the kensai->mage are the easiest to solo with. HOWEVER, a simple fighter/theif can do the game but provide the challenge of absolutely no magic at all. what it does give you is detect ...

it has been a very very long time since i've been to these boards. so, hello once again.

from fighter to cleric - you can take proficiencies in non cleric weapons, but when you dual class, you can take proficiencies in only in cleric weapons and when the fighter class reactivates your proficiencies ...

as you move further into ToB, dual classes (espcially ones which dual at level 9) do get outshone by the multiclasses. as a multiclass, you get more HLAs, more weapon pips and you can go toe to toe with any character.

i think it's a banter pack dialogue but if you equip minsc with lilarcor and have jaheira in the party, lilacor's request to see jaheira's sword is priceless.

the evil characters do have the best banter. edwin always makes me laugh, as does korgan. jan winding up anomen is hilarious as is viconia ...
