I'll echo the general sentiment and say that it's up to everyone to choose if they want to use mages or not. They can make the experience easier and more fun but you don't absolutely must have them. The example I tend to use is when I went through the game with 6 rangers, 3 pure class and 3 archers ...

Sounds like you just needs to rest to me. All pc's with spellcasting abilites starts the game without any spells memorised, and in the sorcs case without spellcasting opportunities ready. One rest and they should be ready.

Excellent points all around. I didn't know about the magic blocking potion bug either, how exactly does it work? Does it make one immune to all spells or only directly damaging or what? And remember that there is a delay between using items so you'll have to drink the potion then wait until next ...

Now this was a fun thread! :) Old admittedly but fun to read nontheless. A good somewhat heated discussion is always entertaining.

But you shouldn't have bumped this Buster, especially not to say that fighters are stronger than mages. You'll get a thousand people telling you how wrong you are. I ...

I believe frost kills the desert trolls. Never encountered any myself, depends on party level what kind of creatures you face there. For me it's always fire giants. So I could be wrong.

The spell is lesser fire elemental right? The chance of hostility is 15% regardless of level or anything else ...

Actually you can, but you must have the thief HLA Assassination. With that any attack with any weapon in the next round counts as backstab. ;)

I made a mistake. The Wizard Slayer can't use rings, but can indeed use potions.

Then I made a mistake too. Using potions would make the WS a whole lot easier. Quite playable actually despite the item limitations. They might have altered that in one of the patches since I can recall there being ...

Hmm, I'd go with a horde of spellcasters since I just like magic carnage. ;)

1: Kensai/mage
Once they start using triggers and contingencies these guys are so buffed they're unstoppable. Tenser trans, stoneskin, immunity magical weapons, imp. haste, need I go on?

2: Monk
Well, I would like to ...

Possibly the Wizard SLayer, but I have an idea that he may be capable of some really nasty tricks.

Yes, the wizard slayer is indeed difficult to solo with. Biggest problem is the fact that he can't use healing potions nor magical items like the ring of regeneration. Healing for them is a b*tch. I ...

The wave.... I don't recall a weapon called the wave... could someone enlighten me?

It's a halberd you can assemble in SoA. It got some halfdecent qualities but like The Equalizer there are better choices out there.

Always Insane. With tactics and Ascension nowadays. So far there's only one fight I have been unable to beat at that difficulty and that is that godd*mned last battle in Ascension. Had to lower it down to Core Rules to stand a chance. :( My sole purpose (well, excuse really) for playing is so that I ...

I've found that simple hit and run works well against him. Just run to another area and wait until his protections wears of. Then go back and start whacking. Might be cheesy (not to mention cowardly) but if you can't stand up to him in a fair fight it's a solution.

I've found that a solo sorc (elf for the extra dex, but not important really) can handle whatever's thrown at them. Thieves are also cool because of the Use Any Item. Makes them able pull of a lot of cheese or semi-cheese strats. And berzerker/clerics usually can stay alive no matter what.

If you ...

I cannot see how you should have any problems. Just as long as you have some decent equipment so you can resist or absorb most of the damage from mages until you chip away their protection spells I really can't see you going down. As for the elder orbs, just mass up on them. Dish out enough damage ...
