maybe I'm crazy but on the PC version, the advanced medkits can only be broken down into chemicals. I tried editing my repair skill to really high to see if that would change, but it doesn't. Yep, I'm in a cutscene. Unfortunately, I can't go to the planet since the Ebon Hawk's control room is blocked off. And I've tried reloading about 5 different saved games, none of them helped.

I read on the bioware tech forums on some prog. called catalyst or something. would that do the trick maybe?
