Thanks, that's very helpful. I restarted, and built a mage who is very focused on Magic Missile and Magic Blast. I'm mowing my way through mobs, and I'm already back to the Guggenheim, drinking potions at about a quarter the rate of my first playthrough.

It seems like mages are a bit less powerful ...

Ego Draconis: Can't stay alive, can't find potions

I just picked up Ego Draconis, and I did fine until about level six. Now I'm level ten, and I drink about one potion for every enemy I kill. Naturally, that's unsustainable, and I'm spending all my gold and then some on potions.

I figured I'd play as a mage, so I dropped a few skill points here and ...

Crushing Prison is probably the most powerful spell line in the game. It gives you two spells (CP and Force Field) that remove an elite or regular enemy from the battle for a while, leaving you free to deal with a smaller portion of the enemy force at a time. They work against bosses, too, just not ...

Yes, I noticed the complete absence of half-elves and half-dwarves, too. Since romance options within your party and at the brothel are available without regard to race, it's reasonable to presume humans, elves, and dwarves have tried to reproduce, and they have evidently failed. I presume ...

I figured I'd be reading about a hole in the gameworld, like the time I walked through a wall in the Alienage Orphanage and struggled for five minutes before I got out.

Wildeyn,

As a soloist, you have to deal four times as much damage as a member of a party would. It follows that I might use about four times as much mana in combat as the regular mage. It's impractical to meet this requirement with willpower or even mana regeneration. Gold is in good supply, and I ...

Good advice, Scott, but if you're okay with something gamey, have one party member run in a big circle being chased by Branka, while the others kill the white then yellow golems. Then have everyone gang up on Branka.

I take the silence as a resounding "No", there are no difficulty mods out there. That's a shame, because I was composing in my mind a party of three Arcane Warriors plus a Templar. The player character casting intricate and area-of-effect spells, Morrigan robotically doling out damage and knockdowns ...

Wildeyn,

I've just completed the final battle as a solo Arcane Warrior. The Arcane Warrior is a force to be reckoned with, and lots of fun to play, but you're right that there are a few enemies who can bring him down.

Archers are surprisingly dangerous. Unless I have a Glyph of Warding up, even ...

Well, I'm currently trying to outfit a solo Arcane Warrior, but the list would be handy for any L16+ party.

I'm already happy with my Wade's Superior Dragonbone, Rockknocker, D's Shield, Lifegiver, and KttC. So I suppose all I need is a legendary Belt and Amulet. If possible, a staff with better ...

List of top-tier equipment for sale?

I'd like to see a list of rare equipment available for sale in DragonAge. I'm L19 now, I'm swimming in gold, and I want to know what's available for > 50 sovereigns.

This game needs a higher difficulty setting than Nightmare. Mods?

Now that my soloist L17 mage is outfitted with Lifegiver, Dragonbone, and Rockknocker, I feel invincible. I pretty much am invincible. Combat has become much too easy. It's sad that this was fairly easy to achieve with a party of one. I shudder to think what I'm going to do to the Darkspawn on my ...

I'm with Solusek on this one.

In DA:O, nice guys finish last. I'm accustomed to RPGs where if you're polite to the questgiver, you'll get a nice fat reward. But in DA:O, you have to constantly remind people you're not questing out of the kindness of your heart. Unless of course you are, in which ...

This quest has some unexpected, frustrating dialog trees. It seems like the first time you talk to the Bann inside the castle, your course is set in stone. So choose carefully.

Being an evil character, I wanted to scream and yell about how I was going to kill children, storm in, knock out the ...

Soloing on Nightmare has been a pleasant challenge so far. The only other battles I have been totally unable to win are optional Revenant battles.

I just can not kill this Arcane Horror!

Difficulty level is Nightmare. My party of one L13 Arcane Warrior is faced with a single orange Arcane Horror.

The Arcane Horror's favorite spell is Paralyze, which I can not endure. It results in 20s of paralysis, which is just enough time for him to kill me with his vulnerability hex + spells.

I ...

I think you're right. Oh well, I'm going to sell all my swords and poisons now.

If difficulty level affects your chance to hit, that may explain why I can't.

Dear Mister Dragon,

Naturally I read your post. My exclamation of "Nonsense!" was more directed at those who said you should not try to solo. Yes, you are correct that there are quests where you are forced to have party members, but aside from those, you can solo, and it's worth doing if you're up ...
