Alchemy is INCREDIBLE!

After reading Chris Boney's thread, I decided to try for myself - and he's right. Alchemy rocks! It even complements Enchantment rather nicely. Let's see what a level 1 char can do:

- You can get a complete Master's set of tools from upstairs in Caldera's Mage Guild. Steal it, no one's watching ...

I see your point, although a Dremora Lord or bigger will still deal you more damage than the Robe restores.

The worst thing about the Robe of St. Roris, however, and the reason I don't wear it myself is ... it looks horrible! I mean, I look like an environmentalist Friar Tuck in that thing. Style ...

Summon Golden Saint, and other kickass summons, can be bought from one of the mages in the Upper Tower in Tel Brannora.
You have to be able to levitate to reach the chamber.

To reach Tel Brannora, go to Vivec by silt strider. In Vivec, catch the boat.

Tel Brannora also has a trader with ...

Nice idea, but it won't work. You can't absorb spells that YOU cast yourself. That also goes for area effect spells and spells that get reflected by your enemies.

User,

There is no NPC who sells Restore Mana Spells, so you cannot learn the effect to put it in an enchanted item.

However, the effect itself DOES exist in the game. It is present in two situations: Restore Mana potions and Temple Shrines. If you can lookup these two object types in the ...

Use persuasion. If your speechcraft isn't very high, choose the "bribe" option. 100 gold usually are enough for a successful bribe. Once his disposition towards you is in the 80's, he'll join.

Most definitely DO buy this game.

In terms of freedom and open-endedness, there simply isn't any competition. None whatsoever.

As for graphics, sound and character creation, there are many reviews out there, so there's no need to go over that, except to mention that it feels like you're ...

A couple of single classes get a LOT more powerful at levels 31-40 (depends whether the XP cap is removed or not).

Examples: Monk (higher MR), Sorcerer (learns up to 5 lvl 9 spells), Wild Mage (adds level to wild surge rolls).

This is not the case with the pure mage or the pure fighter ...

Before ToB, there was a version of NRD in SK, yes. Probably not exactly the same version, because the Wild Mage class level wasn't added to the wild surge roll.

The only reason the Wild Mage was included in ToB by Bioware is that almost all the work had already been done by one of their employees ...

As for the chess board, it's easier if you're solo. Try this: if you're a mage cast minor globe of invulnerability and run around the board. The lightning bolts will kill everybody except yourself.

If you're not a mage, you can use a potion of magic blocking.

1) Actually, yes. You can import a *generalist* mage from BG1 and change him into any mage "kit" (conjurer, invoker, etc.), including the Wild Mage - I've done that myself.

2) - Wild Mage advantages: extra spell per level without opposition school, can cast the Chaos Shields and, most importantly ...

A lazy man's guide to power in Arcanum

Well, I know the hard thing is NOT making a uberchar in Arcanum...

The point of this post is how to do a low-maintenance, low mouse-click count, low ammo-lugging char who can still kick arse.

My opinion:

- Go mage. You can also go tech if you forget about firearms and use melee (Pyrotechnic ...

First impressions, a few thoughts and character hints

Started Arcanum 4 days ago. I'm addicted!

First, a few gripes:
- The interface takes a lot of getting used to. Unlike most games, the manual is indispensable (all 170 pages of it). Too bad it doesn't have an index or a table of contents.

- Real-time combat is waaay too fast. First thing I did was ...

Cleric/Mage multi is an interesting class, especially because they can put cleric spells in contingencies. Also, since the highest priest spells are level 7, and you can place spells of up to level 8 in a chain contingency ...

For example, sequencer 3 dooms, chain contingency 3 implosions, 3 storms ...

The XP cap in SoA is 2.950.000.
If you install ToB, the cap is raised to 8M, even if you haven't finished SoA yet.

However, if you used an XP cap remover before installing ToB, you may be in trouble because of the high-level abilities - you have to choose them as you level up, and if you already ...

Any of them. As always, it depends on your preference. A (not so) quick comparison, anyway:

Kensai/Mage (level 13/28)

Pros: +4 to hit/+4 damage Kensai bonus, better speed factor, Kai, -2AC.

Cons: can't use bracers of extraordinary specialization (+1 to hit/+2 damage/ 1/2 ...

That's because the kensai kit must have some common internal id number with the abjurer specialist mage, since stoneskin is an alteration spell (the opposition school of abjuration).
See if that happens with other alteration scrolls as well - fireshield red/blue, time stop, etc.
