Why not make Valygar a fighter/thief?

Alternatively, I think Mazzy could work as a thief/cleric multiclass, as she struggles between her race's propensity to roguery, and her holy aspirations.

Classes to avoid for a first solo would probably be the archer, assassin and bounty hunter as they're a pain to play until you get the boots of speed. All the other classes are pretty straightforward as long as you know the game reasonably well.

If you want a really easy solo, go monk. They start ...

I've thought of doing something like that in the past, but the only restriction was in offensive spells (the red colored spells), which had to be from your specialist school. A bit more feasible I think.

Yea I found out it's only a little boost in luck, which is pitiful. I chose the skald and I find the song useful in those moments where my whole party is getting hit, to bring their AC down a little. Otherwise I just stand back with a bow and occasionally assist dynaheir with a few spells.

Normal Bard Song

Thinking of playing the whole saga as a bard, but there is something I've always wanted to know. What is a vanilla bard's song like? The manual only provides details for the skald song.

While not exactly ridiculous (more like unusual), my dual-axe wielding dwarven kensai was fun to roleplay, even though I normally stay away from fighters.

As for your halfling barbarian, you can roleplay that, because he's so small and uses daggers, he learned to use poisons to overcome his ...

MP = multiplayer. In other words, a party comprised of characters created by me.

Anyway, I settled on another no-magic-items party, but this time, with no tanks. So it's me (sorcerer), Aerie, Jan, Viconia, Cernd, and Haer'dalis (which will be replaced with Imoen). I know that blades can be decent ...

As I said, I'm a purist, so I stick to the core rules. And soloing bores me rather quickly because of the fast leveling and, well, because of the loneliness :P . I really enjoy a full group of NPCs. And yes, that makes increasing the challenge more difficult because all the NPCs are rather good.

I ...

Some of you are confusing the G3 fixpack with the G3 tweakpack. They are 2 entirely different packages. The G3 guys go to great lengths to ensure that the fixpack only fixes bugs, and does not modify the rules in anyway. When they're not sure something is a bug or intended by the devs, it goes into ...

Increasing the challenge without mods.

I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to BG2, so I only install addons which modify cosmetic details, and stick to the core rules difficulty. The unmodded game is too easy after playing through it numerous times so I try to come up with ways to make it more challenging.

The most enjoyable was a ...

You're not supposed to put the items in their respective pipes. You're supposed to click the pipes in the correct order, when you have all 4 of the sewer items. Quallo has some hints as to the order, IIRC.

Vista and EAX

Recently got a laptop which runs BG2 wonderfully, save for one little problem: I have no environmental sound. I didn't think I would really miss it, but I do. It really helps immerse you in the world.

Did a little reading and apparently EAX hardware does not work on Windows Vista. But I've also ...

Don't play on easy difficulty; it halves your XP intake and consequently makes the game harder in the long run. It's meant to help you deal with single tough encounters, not the whole game.

I do wonder if you've stumbled into the same bug I encountered on my very first BG2 game oh so many years ago ...

I had that problem too. Then I came up with a good rp reason not to take them: because the pc is a bhaalspawn and trouble follows him wherever he goes, dynaheir had died, and khalid had died, and now imoen's life was in grave danger. He couldn't bear to have the same happen to jaheira and minsc, so ...

Theme NPC Parties

Here are some of my ideas for NPC parties with a twist. The first one I recently took all the way to the ravager where they're now kinda stuck hehe. I made a post in the PBG forums if you want to read a bit about them.

Party for the Eradication of Magical Items: does not use ANY wearable magical ...
oh and since i was new to the game it was on easy but still
Don't play on easy, it will give you only 50% experience and make the game even harder in the long run. I think it's meant for really tough battles that the player just can't beat, not for a whole campaign :) .
