Just wanted to present an opposing viewpoint to some of what has been said here...
While there are certainly bad schools/school systems in the US, there are also some that are excellent. I was lucky enough to be in one of those systems, and I enjoyed a lot of my time spent there.

I feel your pain. My parents were never quite as strict as you say your mom is (grounding you for homework grades), but I had many a arguement/fight with my parents over my grades as well.
The best advice I could offer would be to try to talk to your mom about this calmly and rationally ...

Assuming this poll referred to PC games, I voted for once or twice a week.
I tend to alternate between PC games and console games. Right now I am obsessed with MLB 2k3 on the PS2 (though I can hear the sweet siren song of Madden 2004...)
However, when games like BG2, Alpha Centauri, Civ III, PS:T ...

I certainly hope this game is good. A true turn-based D&D RPG sounds like a lot of fun.

I would have to vote for "other" and say healing magic. Cure Light Wounds, channeling positive energy...
Whatever you want to call it, I can't think of a fantasy world that doesn't have some kind of healing magic.

I also agree with Rob-hin. The only bounds there should be on what type of character you create are:
1) Is the DM ok with this concept?
Pretty much self explanatory.
2) Will this character potentially ruin the game for the other players?
A kleptomaniac halfling might be fun for YOU ...

If you like strategy games, you could try Civilization III or Alpha Centauri.
Since each is turn based, they make great games to play for a while, then drop when something else catches your eye. And, they are easy to come back to.

I agree with you that if we took this particular game more seriously, ressurection might be a more viable option. A tight adventuring party would make an effort to raise each other.
I guess the way I would look at it is:
Our weekly game is like BG II (lots of roleplaying, a real reason for the ...

You mean, once you die in the temple, you are out? That seems kind of rough...
Would I be safe in assuming that your cleric is right behind/next to the fighter, pumping healing spells into him? :)
My D&D group is not big on ressurection. We generally feel it takes a lot of suspense out of the ...

I agree that there is very little roleplaying in Temple. I can see that if it is your main game, it would be kind of boring to constantly hack 'n' slash every session.
We've run into the problem of having too many original characters die. There is only one original party member still in the group ...

I play in two games. One is a weekly game in the DM's own world. The other is a monthly all-nighter where we are working our way through the Temple of Elemental Evil as well. I've only died twice so far in that game...

If you have a Wizards of the Coast store (store of the company that owns the D&D license) near you, I would check them out. If there isn't one near you, check their website.

Everyone says incredibly stupid and/or insenitive things to their friends every great once in a while. It is unavoidable.
The important thing is being able to work past it, which it seems you have done.
Unless it becomes a frequent habit, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.

This might not qualify as a honest to goodness battle scene (since there were chases in between), but I really liked the entire Mines of Moira (sp) section of LotR 1.

Brian Regan (sp?) is one of the few "clean" comedians that I really like.
I'll also second Ned on Greg Giraldo.
And, a guilty pleasure... Jim Norton.
Not as overall funny as Regan or Giraldo, but he has some GREAT lines.
