In my opinion, Baldurs Gate 1 is harder than BG2. At least in the beginning. I think if you play the series from the beginning, you will appriciate the series even more. And some people think, me included, that the storyline in bg1 is better than in bg2. But that is up to you, of course.

But I changed my mind again. Minsc got himself killed, and I couldn't ressurect him, he was just wiped out of my party, damn ankhegs... So now I have, against my will, mind you, taken in Ajantis as replacement. For better or for worse ...

Well, the "Hide in plain sight"-skill probably was the most usefull skill for me. with my Shadowdancer. but overall, I think the disarm traps and search skills are most usefull. For fighters I would go with Cleave.

Well, I just started out with my first ever non-warrior PC in this game. And my god its hard in the beginning. I play a mage now, currently lvl 4, so now he beginns to...well....not being so weak. My party at the moment is made of Minsc(tank), Branwen, Imoen, Garrick(for lore), Dynaheir and myself ...

My advice is that you download the Service packs for XP, or that you replace XP with Windows 2000 or 98, or run them dual, which one you prefer.

I play BG1 on a computer with XP, so the servicepacks is the only problem I can think of
