I have completed BG2 for the 1st time (hurrah!) but I remember people saying that they could pick up an amulet left once Mordenkainen's sword was 'defeated' which was very helpful against mind flayers. I don't recall ever having seen the scroll either for sale or while adventuring. Can anyone help?

I have kept Minsc & Jaheira and recovered Imoen, as all of these characters were members of my party in BG. I felt that from a roleplaying point of view my character would stick with his loyal party members. That leaves Aerie & Nalia and my character who is a fighter, imported from BG.

It seems from reading other threads that in some cases at least, you can end up waiting forever for the ambush / jaheira to continue the romance - you've obviously been lucky or clever, Ripper!

There either seems to be a bug or a very strict way in which you need to do things for it all to go ...

PS - I have also done the 'poisoned Harper' and was doing well with the Jaheira romance plot until it all went quiet.

I have done the locket & Xsar but like others that's where the Harper involvement ends - no ambushes etc.

I see that there are 'technical'ways to get things going again but I don't really know about these so I guess I shall have to ...

I have just read that Jaheira is meant to have various interactions with the Harpers, but none of these have happened even though she has always been in my party. Bug, or have I not done something to trigger these? Hope someone can help.

Thanks for the advice - I assumed that they just kept on coming (I got too close to all of the portals while exploring so each portal was 'activated' - oops) - tried the 'protection' tactic which worked but was quite tricky; knowing that eventually the portals will become 'exhausted' is very helpful ...
