That is correct. In theory you could time travel by changing the mass of an object rapidly, say a humongous water balloon. However gravity is a force and not energy itself.

@Ubik, destruction just has a negative connotation. Why would one phase of the sun be better or worse than the other? That is all that I was trying to say.

well I don't have an answer - but I find it fascinating to think about.
I mean a Danish scientist recently slowed a light particle significantly down - whereby slowing the speed of light. Maybe one day - we find a way to stop or maybe even reverse a light particle.

Aren't you changing the energy when you are changing the mass. Doesn't force create energy???

New question: Can energy be created?

Good point. It's not destuction..it's an increase in entropy. As such, it is favored to happen by definition.

EDIT: Forces allow energy, yup. and yes energy can be created: e=mc^2 Image

What puzzles me about the big bang theory is. How is the earth able to sustain life, and be a living planet??

Because we are talking about the death of a star here. This is one of the greatest events in the mega-world and it is not something that has to do with the one who watches it (let's not get into too philosophical questions as "if there was nothing to watch it happening, would it actually happen?").
A star has a life span. First it lives (using its nuclear fuel) and then it dies off. It's just that a star's death can really be the most fascinating sight this universe can offer (a super novae explosion)

Isn't that just the transformation of energy? That is not really creating energy is it?

You can convert force/mass into energy - but It isen't possible to create energy without the use of input.
E = 0 (energy without any input)

What do you mean??? m is mass (no energy) and C is the speed of light (no energy) yet the turn into e (energy) on the other side of the equation. This is converting mass to energy and vice versa.

It is converting into energy - not the creating of energy

See ya - Ubik Image

LOL, yes..I recapture the kinetic energy from the spin cycle and use windings to transform it back into electrical energy to power that same machine Image
