Background

You'll receive this quest from Pentical Bleth (in the Market Triangle Tower) when you return from completing the quest Investigating the Dark Dahlia.


Walkthrough

During the quest Investigating the Dark Dahlia, you should have picked up a letter mentioning somebody named Kajeel, plus a safe house that he'd set up for the vampire Latasha. Pentical Bleth will identify Kajeel for you. She'll tell you that he runs an "unsavory" drinking establishment in Undergate, and she'll ask you to go there and see what you can find out about him. To get into the bar, you'll need to pick up a special token. This is covered in the quest entry for Hunt for a Token.

Before heading to Kajeel's, you might want to talk to the drow merchant in Undergate (#1). If you defeat the false priest of Ilmater (#2) for him, then he'll give you an Anti-Psion Stone, which you'll be able to use against Kajeel. To enter Kajeel's, you'll just need to head to the Kajeel Portal (#3) and show your token to the dao genie guarding it. The genie will then let you pass.

Inside Kajeel's, Kajeel will refuse to tell you about the safe house, and he'll point out that he has a trio of thralls in the bar who are there to protect him. You'll then have two ways to proceed:

• If you have the Anti-Psion Stone, then you can threatened Kajeel with it, and he'll give up the location of the safe house, plus tell you the password needed to get inside. You can then leave peaceably or use the stone, which will cause Kajeel's thralls to chase him down and kill him in his secret room (located through the trapdoor in the southern part of the bar). If you enter the secret room yourself, and loot the containers there, then you'll find some spell scrolls, some gems, and some gp. You'll earn 2000 xp if you follow this path.
  
  
• If you don't have the Anti-Psion Stone, then you'll only be able to attack Kajeel and his thralls. Kajeel is by far the most dangerous enemy in the group, so focus on him first and then mop up the rest. Once you've done enough damage to Kajeel, he'll disappear, but you'll find the key to his secret room (which you can enter through the trapdoor in the southern part of the bar) on one of the thralls. Also on the thralls, you'll find an Amulet of Natural Armor +2, a Light Shield +2, Bracers of Armor +2, and more.
  
  Inside the secret room, Kajeel will quickly offer up the location of the safehouse, and he'll also tell you the password needed to get inside. You'll then be able to leave peaceably (which will gain you influence with Rinara) or attack Kajeel (which will lose you influence with Rinara). If you loot the containers in the secret room, then you'll find some spell scrolls, some gems, and some gp. You won't earn any extra xp for taking this path.

Regardless of your choice, if you picked up the Anti-Psion Stone and killed Kajeel, then you'll be able to return the stone to the drow merchant (#1), and he'll reward you with 600 gp.
