Background
You'll receive this quest early in the campaign, when the
Vigilant crashes into the coast of Samarach at Omgar's Teeth.
Walkthrough
You'll begin this quest in conversation with Volo (#1). You'll learn that the local batiri tribesmen have captured Captain Lastri and the first mate, and that some of the surviving passengers have weapons. If you have a character with weapon focus in
Longsword or a high enough intimidate skill, then you'll be able to pick up a
Longsword from Durlin. If you have a character with weapon focus in
Shortbow or a high enough diplomacy skill, then you'll be able to pick up a
Shortbow from Dalin.
Regardless of what you say to Volo, he'll decide to parley with the tribesmen. These conversations won't go very well, and three times you'll be attacked. Fortunately, it will take some time for Volo to complete his negotiations, and in the meantime you'll be able to explore the area and craft some useful items:
- From debris you can usually make weapons or healing kits, assuming that you have the necessary skills.
- From shrubs you can usually make potions or healing kits, assuming that you have the necessary skills.
You can also pick up a few items from the fallen batiri, and at the top of the hill (#2) you can pick up a
Coin of Life.
Note: If you keep all of the shipwreck survivors alive, then you'll earn the Protector feat (+1 survival).
After the attacks, a Samarachan Patrol will show up, but rather than rescuing you, they'll arrest you on suspicion of working with the yuan-ti, and of entering Samarach illegally. However, once the patrol has listed your crimes, they won't do anything further, and so you'll be able to take your time and explore the area for more shrubs and debris. Then when you're ready to be escorted to Samargol, just talk to the patrol.
