Blast Magazine, B-.
Kingdom's of Amalur: Reckoning never seems to fully establish an identity to call its own it just borrows from some of gaming's top franchise's and fine tunes the mechanics to its own liking. Saved by the remarkable combat engine, you'll still have a great time with Reckoning. More than anything, it feels like a great start to a new franchise, and we can't wait for the more cleaned up inevitable sequel.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning isn't revolutionary; it's not the high-dining culinary genius that is, say, Skyrim, or anything from Bioware. It's more like fast food done absolutely perfectly. And if you connect with the game world presented within, you're in luck; an MMO is on the way. Lofty plans for the franchise notwithstanding, if you put in the hours and make the effort, Reckoning is a thoroughly enjoyable and generous title.

Probably the biggest thing Reckoning has going against it is its release only a couple of months after Bethesda's blockbuster epic The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. While Skyrim this is not (the Skyrim-like lockpicking, if nothing else, is a dead giveaway), it's still a rather good play and a game worthy of at least carrying the Dragonborn's equipment bag.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will probably be remembered as the most amazing game of 2012 that nobody saw coming. More than that, it will also be remembered as the game that many skipped because they were waiting for Mass Effect 3. A true crime. This game is amazing, and demands your attention. Play it. Play it now.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning may not reinvent the genre, but it is a very good RPG, and a fun one at that. It is visually appealing and has a ton of content and possible character builds. If you like RPGs at all, give Amalur a try. You may like what you find.

I know that some gamers and critics will claim that Reckoning brings nothing new to the genre. Some will say it is too repetitive. Some will even claim it is just plain boring. The secret to Kingdoms of Amalur appeal lies not in any single part of it, but like the fabric of fate, made up of various threads that feature in the story, so too does the game come together to be a consistently enjoyable adventure. The intuitive combat system makes it very appealing to the action gamer while the deep RPG elements will attract the more hardcore RPG fans. This truly strikes the perfect balance between the two and is a title not to be missed.
