Q: What will happens when you character is killed? What kinds of death penalties will apply and how severe will they be?
A: Death carries a sting, for it reduces one's "Vitae," or life force. When your Vitae is lowered, you have less hit points and Vigor, so your overall effectiveness is reduced... but you won't lose XP, and you'll never lose a level or access to a cherished skill or item. In fact, there is no item loss at all with death. Earning XP will restore Vitae and eventually remove the penalty for having died.
The dead are resurrected at the last Lifestone they bound themselves to. Binding to a Lifestone is a free action that anyone can do, so you won't have to hunt for a friendly mage.
